Lightweight, moisture-retaining soil is perfect for baby plants, but bigger plants have bigger needs. As your aroids grow into their teen and adult years, they need a more well constructed substrate with superior aeration, moisture retention, and drainage to keep their massive root systems healthy. Happy Roots is engineered specifically to give them the structural integrity they demand.

We blend 9 premium ingredients of the highest quality for the perfect balance of moisture retention and breathability. Tree fern fiber and coco coir keep roots hydrated without drowning them, while heavy-duty pumice, mineral-rich lava rock, and other premium aeration elements ensure a chunky core immune to compaction. To take root health even further, we enrich the blend with nutrient-rich earthworm castings to naturally stimulate vibrant new growth, alongside horticultural charcoal which actively filters impurities, neutralizes harmful bacteria, and sweetens the soil to ward off root rot.

Because Happy Roots doesn't contain any added fertilizers, you'll want to feed your plants with your favorite nutrients to keep that growth going! Pro tip for the best results: Blend in 10–20% Fluval Stratum to give your aroids an extra boost.

Because of its unique, highly aerated structure, Happy Roots performs beautifully in a semi-hydroponic setup with a wick system! If you use this method, we recommend two simple rules to keep your aroids thriving:

1. Keep the reservoir low.

2. Let your plant completely drink up the water over a 2–3 day period before refilling. This brief dry-down mimics nature and ensures the roots get a healthy dose of oxygen.
